The buying and selling of enslaved people accompanied the Loyalists to New Brunswick from the Thirteen Colonies. In this advertisement, the 17-year-old girl being sold faced the grisly prospect of being auctioned off like a common farm animal if a private buyer did not purchase her within eight days of the advertisement’s appearance.
