Meet the people responsible for adding the Loyalist Women collection to the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
Margaret Conrad is the Canada
Research Chair in Atlantic Canada Studies at the University of New Brunswick.
She is co-director of the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives project.
Lisa Charlong is assistant director of the Electronic Text Centre
and coordinator of XML initiatives. In addition to these roles Lisa can be found designing instructional materials and
managing projects. Lisa is owned by a killer cat, Tigger.
Sue Oliver is a program coordinator with the Electronic
Text Centre at the University of New Brunswick. She provides program coordination services for conferences,
workshops, and projects. Her responsibilities include maintaining budgets, payroll, staffing requirements,
and editing.
A contributor to the Dictionary of Canadian Biography,
Stephen Davidson has been an elementary school teacher for over 25 years. He currently
teaches at Cavalier Drive School in Lower Sackville, Nova
Scotia. In addition to a young adult novel about the Loyalists, he has written The Burdens of Loyalty,
a book about his ancestors who came to New Brunswick with Fyler and
Polly Dibblee.
Documentary filmmaker and writer Sylvia D. Hamilton has produced award-winning work that
is widely used in schools and universities. Her documentaries include "Portia White: Think on Me," and
"The Little Black School House." She teaches at the University of King's College
in Halifax.
Harvey Amani Whitfield teaches history at the University of Vermont.
He has published several works about the history of black people in Nova Scotia and is currently
researching the history of slavery in the Maritimes.
Kelly Chaves is a Ph.D. student at the University of New Brunswick,
studying Native North Americans in the British Navy and Merchant service from 1700-1776. For this
project, she researched, wrote for the website, and organized various meetings and events.
Michelle McDonald is a student in the Master of Arts program (History) at the
University of New Brunswick, focusing on Prince Edward Island's historiography and
concepts of identity and community. She works on research, writing, editing, and general administration
for the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
Mike Meade is the digital imaging coordinator with the
Electronic Text Centre at the University of New
Brunswick. He coordinates the scanning and associated metadata used to build digital
collections in the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives. Mike also
records and edits audio versions of selected documents in the Loyalist Women collection.
Georgina D'Cruz is a digital imaging assistant with the
Electronic Text Centre at the University of New Brunswick. She compiles
the metadata used to build digital collections in the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
Rose Cole is a student and Research Assistant in the Sociology Department at the
University of New Brunswick. She narrated selected letters
in the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives' Loyalist Women collection.
David Folster, a historian and former CBC broadcaster, narrated the letters written by
Edward Winslow to his wife Mary featured in the Loyalist Women collection.
Judy Hiscock owns Skyline Transcription Services, a home-based transcription business. She
transcribes hand-written, original documents featured in the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
She also conducts research and has made extravagant use of spreadsheets and tables to organize the miles of data
emanating from the document collections.
David Bent is a Ph.D. candidate in Canadian History at the University of
New Brunswick, supervised by Dr. Margaret Conrad. His work focuses on rural and agricultural
history in twentieth century Nova Scotia. He works for the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives
as an encoder, transcriber, and researcher.
Kristin Crandall is an undergraduate student at the University of New Brunswick
majoring in World Literature and Culture Studies, and an alumni of Canada's Katimavik
program. She performs text encoding, proofreading, and metadata creation for the project.
Natalie Dubé is a Masters candidate in History at the University of
Guelph and a UNB alumna. She transcribes primary documents in the collection, encodes the transcriptions in
XML, and assists in project administration.
Rebecca Colborne reviews, translates, and edits all text featured on French versions of
Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives websites.
Monica Currie is a graphic designer with the Electronic Text Centre
at the University of New Brunswick. She creates images and design elements for the website and promotional material for
collections in the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
Lisa Harrison is an assistant graphic designer with the Electronic Text Centre
at the University of New Brunswick. She contributes design elements to the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives
and other projects.

Jason Nugent is a systems analyst with the
Electronic Text Centre at the University
of New Brunswick. He provides support and systems maintenance for the servers powering the
Atlantic Canada Portal and Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
Jen Whitney is a developer with the
Electronic Text Centre at the University
of New Brunswick. She organizes contributions from transcribers, encoders, researchers,
photographers, and graphic artists to create websites for the digital collections in
the Atlantic Canada Virtual Archives.
