    This course explores the Atlantic world created by the expansion of European empires in the Americas. It traces the development of colonial societies from the rise of European settlements in the mid-seventeenth century to the fall of imperial regimes in the early nineteenth century.

    This course examines the development of the Atlantic region from the arrival of European peoples to Confederation. It explores topics such as relations between Europeans and Aboriginal peoples, the imperial struggle for North America, the expulsion of the Acadians, the arrival of the Loyalists, and the rise of reform movements in the nineteenth century.

  • History 2272: Atlantic Canada Since Confederation

    This course examines the development of the Atlantic region since 1867. We will explores a number of themes, such as the debates over Confederation, regional economic development, the impact of the First World War, the Maritime Rights movement, resettlement schemes in the 1960s, and the renaissance in Acadian culture.

  • History 3472W: Nova Scotia After Confederation

    This course surveys the history of Nova Scotia from the 1860s to the present day. Topics include the debate over Confederation, the nature of Victorian society, the world wars, economic upheavals of the 1920s and 1930s, aboriginal and black communities, heritage and tourism, and Nova Scotia's political and intellectual relationship with the rest of Canada.
