The Newfoundland Historical Society's Gilbert Higgins Lecture will be held Thursday, November 24th 2011 at 8 PM, in the Hampton Hall Lecture Theatre at the Marine Institute, 155 Ridge Road, St. John's.

The lecturer will be Jim Connor, and his talk is titled: "Trinity’s John Clinch (1748 -1819): Medical Man, Missionary, Magistrate, and More." Refreshments to follow; parking and attendance are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Faculty, students and staff are invited to attend the third presentation in the 2011-2012 Atlantic Canada Studies Seminar Series.

Nicole O'Byrne, assistant professor in the faculty of law at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, is the third speaker. Her presentation, "The Last Province Aboard: New Brunswick and the Implementation of National Medicare," takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in Room 28 of Tilley Hall.

Greg Marquis, a history professor at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, will give a presentation titled "Anglophone New Brunswick's Folk Music: Old Time and Country Music in the 20th Century", on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in room 28 of Tilley Hall.

The Department of History, Cape Breton University & James Bryson McLachlan Commemorative Society present the 13th Annual J.B. McLachlan Memorial Lecture by Dr. Steven High, Canada Research Chair in Public History, Concordia University, on Friday, 28 October 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sydney Credit Union Room at Cape Breton University.

Dr. High is the author of Industrial Sunset: The Making of North America’s Rust Belt and co-author of Corporate Wasteland: The Landscape and Memory of Deindustrialization.

Dr. Bruce Fry will speak at the next meeting of the Old Sydney Society, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, 27 October, at the Centre for Heritage and Science (the Lyceum), 225 George St. Sydney.

The title of the talk is: "Fifty years On: Reconstructing Louisborg During the Early Years."
