Aboriginal Peoples

Part of Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage, this site presents historical and other information on the five aboriginal peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador: the Inuit, the Innu, the Mi'kmaq, the Metis, and the extinct Beothuk.

Land of First Contact: The Story of North America's Northern Gateway is an online historical atlas covering the Strait of Belle Isle region, where Europeans and Native Americans first met. Information about each historic site in the area can be obtained by clicking on it either in the map or the alphabetical list provided. The site is meant to serve as both an educational and a tourism resource.

Stonee the music roadie maintains a website of Native American folktales.

Them Days is a quarterly publication of stories gathered from Labrador elders. The magazine's founder, Doris Saunders, was inducted into the Order of Canada for her efforts. The publishers also maintain an archive.
